Jim tries not to

Fern - unintended artistic rendering
March 20, 2010 at 6:46 am
Nice! How did you
do this?
March 20, 2010 at 8:14
am
Found a gif on the web of an ancient fern. Converted
to b&w. Used the ShopBot software to generate a vector outline of the
image.
The software will then create a tool path (x,y,z moves) for a particular router bit. I specified a 60 degree v-carve bit and a depth of .25 inches. This was the result. Better than expected.

February 24, 2010 at

Jim a great solution to no-kneading is a second hand
bread machine. We only allow R2D2 to knead at our house but he does a
great job.
February 24, 2010 at
11:22 am
I have long lusted after those bread machines, but I
also am afraid. If we had one I might make a loaf a day, and I don't think
I should eat that much bread! Maybe I should just have one running for the
smell in the morning.
February 24, 2010 at

How do I get this "share" button on FB to
work?
February 8, 2010 at
10:32 am
@Denise, it works for me. Not sure what's up. Here's
Paul's recipe for it: http://www.williamsonpsp.com/recipes/breakfast/nest-eggs.html
The one change is that this time he used big muffin tins and didn't have to do all the molding of the cups. We just pressed the egg roll wrappers into the tins.

Thanks for the recipe - a good substitution until I
can figure out how to get the teleporter function on the "share" button to

Lokks like the power to the cooling fan to me. The
connectors are supposed to line up.
January 16, 2010 at
12:39 am
I think it was power to the CPU itself. In this
condition my server would power up the CPU fan, but that was it. Not even
a boot beep. Once this was back in, everything came up fine... and I felt
like an alpha geek!
January 16, 2010 at
6:49 am
You don't always know how good your vendor is until years later. They didn't have to spend that extra $0.02 on internal labeling. God bless you eMachines!!! Now if I can just figure out why the thing won't do anything except spin the new fan...

Is it a good idea to gave opened mayo sitting at room temp all day long? In fact, is that even legal? In Denver it seems to be. They must be hearty people.
December 15, 2009 at 7:21 pm
Obviously, they did not go to the same Safety and
Sanitation class I went to at El Centro.
December 15, 2009 at
7:44 pm
Hmm, is it a good idea to have open ketchup and
mustard sitting at room temp all day long? I use the little foil packets
(sealed) of mayo at room temp without thinking. I wish we'd adopt the
European practice of irradiating these types of products.
December 15, 2009 at

Speaking of.....how many weeks after Thanksgiving is
the turkey still safe to eat????? The hubby and I had this argument...I
say it lasts for a number of days, but not WEEKS!
December 15, 2009 at

December 16, 2009 at

When we lived in
Denver we left our frozen Thanksgiving Turkey in the garage for three days
before cooking it.
We didn;t have enough space in the freezer and day time temps were 30 and nightime was in the teens.
At Christmas party's the cold beer would be sitting ontop of a table on the patio, no need for an ice chest.

December 16, 2009 at
12:36 pm
My hubby grew up in the Bay Area and his parents
would leave the leftover turkey out in the garage because they said it was
just as cold as the refrigerator.....I'm just not so sure about that!
Denver, yes....Fremont, hmmmm...
December 16, 2009 at
4:30 pm
@Jon: I think mustard and catchup are ok because of
the salt and acid in them. And packages of mayo are sterile. I thought
opened mayo at room temp is deadly. But according the Association for
Dressing and Sauces, room temp mayo becomes a quality concern, not a
safety issue. http://dhs.wisconsin.gov/fsrl/pubs/Handouts/mayo.pdf
December 16, 2009 at
5:41 pm
I suspect the
squeeze mayo isn't really mayo. I think it's the unsweetened version of
what's inside a Twinkie, which I believe is commonly used in embalming.
Hungry, anyone? (PS I love mayo in moderation.)

0 - nothing -nada -zip to do in Louisville on a Sunday. Kudos to Angela for noticing that a day pass to the sky club cost the same as a coffee at Starbucks. AND the club serves free coffee and snacks.

Another reason I can't go to SBucks. When there I feel I should get the oatmeal. But what a load of trash. Good for me; bad for the planet? Better to stick with The Blue Rock Shoot and washable gear.
November 9, 2009 at 7:25 pm
I know what you mean about the oatmeal...it is nummy
but so overpackaged....it does stick to the ribs for a good long while,
though.

The paper is a 'renewable' product ergo it must be
'green', right?
Speaking of paper, did you know that America and Canada are the only countries where toilet paper is not made from recycled paper? Apparently we have sensitive 'behinds' so we need soft tissue that can only be made with new paper.

Alternative Press Exposition. I go to see the small
self published authors. Some have excellent stories to tell.
November 11, 2009 at

It seems to me that could be a bit of a needle in
haystack situation.
November 11, 2009 at
6:45 pm
I stop at each table and ask them what there stuff is
about. This year one girl had illustrated the story of the shoes her
grandmother bought her years ago and how she wore them for years,
remembering her grandma.
November 11, 2009 at

A child wore the same size shoes for years?
November 11, 2009 at

Still searching for the needle...
November 12, 2009 at
4:21 am
@Jon - she was broke after college. When visiting her
Gram she forced a new pair of tennis shoes on her. Her Gram died and she
wore the shoes for years. My earlier post was a bit brief.
November 12, 2009 at
4:32 am
@Pete - how about a guy who's parents grew up in a
kibbutz. Married and moved to the US. He has worked as a gardener for
years. He's now old and body broken. Went back to the kibbuutz but, "the
kibbutz has no room for those who cannot work." He had nice graphics to
illuminate the story.
November 12, 2009 at
4:35 am
If its well written, I think we've found the needle.
Did you actually read his book? I'd be curious about what emotions come
across in his writing.
November 12, 2009 at
4:57 am
I might have led you astray. This was only 20 pages,
each with one wood block like print and a sentence. It is more like
poetry. The emotion is sadness and dispare over broken dreams. And a bit
of you can't go home again.
November 12, 2009 at
5:23 am
The back of the Blue Rock Shoot today, where I often take my morning coffee and muffin. Ahhhhhhh.

Croppie from PML
September 26, 2009 at 10:06 pm
It's a Crappie (not croppie). In hindsight, I should
have expected that Jim would come up with the biggest Crappie I've ever
seen. What do others think?
September 27, 2009 at
12:06 am
That's huge!
September 27, 2009 at

YUM YUM! Fry'em up!
September 27, 2009 at

You can't fool me
Jim. Rick told me the farther out you hold it out in front of you the
bigger it looks. In reality that thing is probably no bigger then your
finger nail.
Good job!! Dave
Good job!! Dave
September 28, 2009 at
8:22 pm
@Stephanie - Rick is totally correct BUT, as much as
I hate to admit it, it was still a damn big crappie. These fish are
generally the size of your hand - compare Jim's hand to this fish.

It's a new Asian fusion place. Very good meal
tonight. Salmon spring roll appetizer. I had prawns in a tamarind
caramelized onion sauce. Angela had chicken lollipops, which have to be
seen.

August 25, 2009 at 8:13 am
What the heck are you doing? Is this an addition or a
replacement? Saratoga or Twain Harte? (I almost moved to Twain Harte 4
years ago...lot was a really tough build though, and turned out the
neighbors like to shoot things off their deck. Uh, no thank you.
August 25, 2009 at
8:45 am
What are you doing? Adding another story?
August 25, 2009 at
8:46 am
Looks like a pretty tricky retrofit. Why is it
"almost" in? I think you should leave it there with the external support
and build that outdoor dance floor.
August 25, 2009 at
8:47 am
Wow, the work begins. Between your place and Angela's
you guys are in major construction mode this summer.
August 25, 2009 at
9:41 am
I like the outdoor dance floor idea. Hang some
speakers and a disco ball from the ceiling. When the neighbours complain,
explain that you have to dance at night because of the asbestos.
August 25, 2009 at
2:12 pm
No remodel, unfortunately, just repairs. But this
will make the deck safe again, and into the future. Pete, no asbestos here
;-)

Ah - I should have
looked at the picture before commenting - I know those delightful kids!
:-)
And I see Froggie Friend (or is that More Froggie?) - as well as Mom - is also on the floor.
